Ken Fujimoto's works are characterized by a style that takes advantage of the unexpected holes and cracks in wood. He uses wood that would normally be discarded and shaves it with moisture, and then dries it. The natural distortion and contraction of the wood is produced by this process, creating a unique work of art. The shape created by the combination of human hands and the spontaneous action of the wood gives the wood a joyful, uninhibited look.
This is a standard plate with a rusted-look lacquer coating. A thick layer of putty-like lacquer, usually used as a base, is applied to the wooden vessels. The massive thickness, the rounded form and the texture of lacquer make this a simply "cool" vessel. It is no wonder that many chefs ask for this design, which complements the dishes. Because it is made of lacquer, it is resistant to water and can be used for soup.
